US History Discussion Question #4

What were some of the positive and negative changes that occurred in the US during World War II?

Anonymous Kelly Finnesy said...

Some of the positive changes in the US during WWII were that the unemployment virtually vanished and the GNP more than doubled. Some of the negative changes were that the US had some shortages. For example, metal, rubber, and nylon stockings were used to make things for the military instead of things for the US. The supply of food also fell short of demand.

during the war, the US got rid of most of its unemployment. the people in the military were also very diverse. there were african americans, native americans, whites, and even women. this probably helped to bring people closer together. some negative things also happened in the country. the bombing of Pearl Harbor killed many people and also destroyed ships. the loss of lives during the war was also very bad.

The negative is that many american soldiers lives were lost in the war. one of the positives is that the war brought us out of the depression and lowered unemployment greatly.

I think that the most postitive outcome of WWII was that it got the US back up on their feet out of the depression. The most negative thing was that so many people were killed just because of their beliefs.

During WWII there were many positive and negative changes. One positive change was when women were allowed to start being more involved in the war in almost every area except combat. A negative change was the formation of the atomic bomb and using it on other countries.

One of the major negatives was all the lives that were lost throughout the war was a negative. Therefore a postives was that roosevelt did what he had to do. Such as getting us out of depression, and joining the war which was a must.

I think most of the world was hurt after the war, shocked by the damage that was left. Many people had died, leaving families behind.
On the "bright" side, it did help our economy. (I know everyone said that, but it's true and important). A lot can be said for cleansing the dominant race, and population control...(haha, just kidding, it was a twisted joke)

(*this may have posted already, I don't know)
After the war, the world was left shocked by what was left. So many people had lost family and friends.
On the other hand, our economy improved greatly (can't leave that one out, even though everyone's said it already), and a lot can be said for the cleansing of the dominant race, and population control... (just kidding. That was terrible. I'm sorry... kind of)

Positive changes are that unemployment almost disappeared during the war also bring the US out of the Depression, the GNP almost tripled, and it brought the country in all of its racial diversity closer then anything else that had happened. Negative things, while not as permanent as the positive things did happen such as the shortages that the US faced from cutting imports and exports, and the amount of people that were killed.

Some postitives were that there was a lot of employment. (almost nobody was not employed). And some negatives were that a lot of famililes lost their loved ones in the war and in Pearl Habor.

One very great and benificial positives is that of the decrease in the unemployment nubers. Then The worst negative is that of the US turning to the atomic killer the atomic bomb.

Some of the positive changes during WWII were that unemployment nearly vansihed in the US and that the military was allowing more people of different backgrounds in on the battlefield. The negatives include, many deaths of innocent people, and supply of products were vanishing to make things for the war. For example, rubber.

I believe war itself has no bright side. Everybody suffers, the victorious one, as well as the one who ultimately has to surrender.
Moreover in war there are always losers on both sides who are overshadowed by good or bad things that happen afterwards.

World War II helped to lead the US out of the depression in creating jobs to produce weapons (of course not only) or making young men soldiers.
The war united the citizens of the US even more and strengthed patriotism.

The most evident bad thing that happened is the loss of all those valueable lifes of (young) men and women.

Positives:The war brought us out of the great depression which was a big need as our nation began to fall. Also that unemployment dropped significantly. Not to mention that the war brought many people together and helped us combine together to build a stronger and better living nation. Women also got credit for the war as the played a important role in helping the U.S. through the hardships.

Negatives: Many soldiers lost their lives which is never news that someone wants to hear. Also that Pearl Harbor was bombed and many innocent people lost their lives.

well the positives was the fact that FDR came along and diminished the unemployment rate and the depression. he also furthered the us economically in many ways. the negative part is with the good the bad came along with the depression and the war.

The only positive thing I can think of is that unemployment went down because we needed so amny jobs to make our wepons for war. The negative thing would have to be the creaation of the Atom bomb. yes it did end the war but it also started new wars because of nuclear power. And it only kills people.

Well for one we came out of the depression. But on a bad note people died and most of Europe was destroyed.

The greatest change in WWII was the low unemployment rate. It also raised production rates. The war helped America to rise out of the depression and it rebuilt the nation. Of course, this happened at the cost of countless lives around the world.

In my opinion, I have to say that Hitler was the best leader during WWII. He led Germany all the way to almost world domination. He is a person that everyone has heard about and no one should forget. He showed that killing a whole "Religion" like the Jews, can be done. He made germany a powerful country.

Mr. Warsnak showed us some negatives with those anti-Japanese songs. People seemed to believe that the actions of the Japanese government reflected badly on anyone who was Japanese. We had racial songs like those, and even put Japanese-Americans in concentration camps, which was stupid and misguided.
On the positive side, Americans really banded together. It was a unified effort as Americans manufactured war goods, served in the military, and served in other parts of the war effort. It restored the economy and gave women and minorities a greater amount of respect. It showed that, united, the United States was very capable.
