"Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and out interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our armed forces- with the unbound determination of our people- we will gain the inevitable triumph- so help us God"
Franklin D. Roosevelt

I think this is the most powerful statment in the war because afer he said it the USA was officailly in the war.

"Blood alone moves the wheels of history."
- Benito Mussolini, Fascist Dictator

This statement makes a lot of sense because bloody, violent affairs seem to be the only type people remember, take not of, and write down in history books.

"The atom bomb was no 'great decision.' . . . It was merely another powerful weapon in the arsenal of righteousness."

Harry Truman

I think this is a great quote becuase the bombing was a great decision made by the U.S. to help end the war

"The United States will not be a threat to us for decades–not in 1945 but at the earliest in 1970 or 1980-90."
-Adolf Hitler remark to Russian President and Commissar of Foreign Affairs
November 12, 1940

I actually think this is a funny quote because we were a threat to Germany and the rest of the Axis powers for that matter. This quote just "shows them up!"

"I have seen war...I hate war."-Franklin D. Roosevelt

This quote shows how much FDR really wanted to stay neutral during the war, since he had just got the U.S. out of the Depression.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. -Albert Einstein

I think that is such a profound quote because I think he knew that humans were going to destroy ourselfs by making better, and more destructive weapons and not having the judgment to use the wisely.

Admiral Chester Nimitz: "For those who fought on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue."
doing this one because it is a Marine Corps quote, the battle of Iwo Jima was the bloodiest and most brutal out of the entire war, but even though we lost so many, we still kept the Marine Corps spirit alive by doing what makes the Marine Corps the best.

"We shall not flag or fail. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"
Winston Churchill

This quote seemed to me like it helped strengthen the hope of the allies winning the war.

This is important because it shows how much Churchill was offering for the U.S.

"we can afford all that we need;but we cannot afford all that we want."
-FDR

i like this quote because it says how "needy" people are. they are never satisfied with what they have and always want more. therefore, in order to get what a person wants, they would have to spend an infinite amount of money.

"Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar."
- Prime Minister Winston Churchill
This quote shows us how great Winston Churchill was to try and encourage his men and help them get ready for was.

"United in this determination and with unshakable faith in the cause for which we fight, we will, with God's help, go forward to our greatest victory."
- General Dwight D. Eisenhower (1944)

I think that this is powerful, becuase it shows that Dwight D. Eisenhower even knows that we can't do it alone we need to look to the clouds for guidance.

"Before we're through with them, the Japanese language will be spoken only in hell.!
Admiral Halsey - December 1941

This quote shows how much the U.S. hated Japan after the attack of Pearl Harbor. It shows how badly we wanted to eliminate them. I guess what he was trying to say is: Don't mess with the U.S.!

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
-Albert Einstein

I think this quote is (unfortunately) most likely true.
That's why we have to learn from the past, from history.
Hopefully there will never be a World War III.

"The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity - or it will move apart." - Franklin D. Roosevelt
(can u tell FDR is my fave president of the US!)

well actually i think this statement might be more about the depression...but i mean that was kinda during the war so it's both. anyways, i think it's a powerful statement in itself, because FDR is saying that life is how each individual makes it...it can either be hard or easy and as the individuals try and work together as a unit we can be prosperous or for themselves and have no peace. even though, no american wanted to be in the depression or at war, life will get better hopefully...

Yesterday December 7, 1941 a date which will live in infamy. The United States was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. -F.D.R (ps. Alan told me this was right so if it is not then it is his fault)
The greatest tragedy was that all those innocent women and children died when the atom bomb was dropped on Japan.

This is Francie again and I did an oops I accidently put my answer for question number two on question number one so sorry.
And I think that the quote is an intense begining statement to let everyone know the severity of the situation.

I think this quote is applicable because it shows that if the German people had just stopped and thought about what Hitler was saying, WWII probably would not have happened. -Tyler Donker

"National Socialist Germany wants peace because of its fundamental convictions. And it wants peace also owing to the realization of the simple primitive fact that no war would be likely essentially to alter the distress in Europe... The principal effect of every war is to destroy the flower of the nation... Germany needs peace and desires peace!"
Adolf Hitler - 21st May 1935

It kind of shows how Hitler came to power. The German people believed this rhetoric. If he had actually adhered to this, perhaps Germany would have been better off. It's amazing, though, how he just blatantly lies.

"My strength has now been reduced to the equivalent of 36 squadrons...we should be able to carry on the war single-handed for some time if not indefinitely."
Sir Hugh Dowding - RAF Fighter Command - May 1940.

The reason i like this quote is beacuse it goes to show how determined a person can be for his country and the people.
